Since it opened in 1999, hundreds of dogs have passed through the kennels doors and have gone on to wonderful new homes and families. On this page you will see some of those lucky dogs in their forever homes, and hear how they've settled in and how they've enriched their new families' lives.

Hi, from being tied up to the gate at the kennels, he now looks amazing and clearly loves his home comforts xx

Here I am relaxing after a long walk up the hills in Helmsdale on my recent holiday and again curled up in my favourite position on the couch at home. I get on great with Hector and Loca and spend much of my day playing or sleeping in the garden or garage. Mum and Dad and the rest of the family say I am great. we have ironed out the problems with the cat thing and every other cat for that matter. I come back when called and hardly ever need a lead. I'm a very happy puppy.

Lots of love
Dermutt.

Hi Folks, thsnk you so much for the update, she is certainly enjoying life with you. \she looks amazing xx

Hi Ena and Frank,

I hope you are all well, I follow your hard work at the kennels through the website and am always amazed at how many wee dogs you are able to put in wonderful homes. I thought you might like to see Noushka as she accompanied me over the line as I finished the Edinburgh Marathon a couple of weeks ago. She was not allowed to run it with me but Kevin sneaked her on for the last hundred meters and she got a great cheer. The announcer said "And here is the first dog to cross the line!" I wasn't pleased as I thought I looked alright for running 26.2miles! Noushka continues to be the apple of our eyes and a great member of our family. She runs with me on all my training runs, keeping me safe on the dark winter nights and thinks nothing of trotting out 18miles. I am getting her a wee backpack to wear as I have to carry water for her and me and it gets heavy after a while so now she can carry her own.
Keep up the great work that you do, it is good to know that there is somewhere like Second Chance looking out for the wee dogs not so lucky first time round.
Lots of love from Ruth, Kevin and Noushka xxx

Dear Ena & Frank

Just a wee note to let you know our gorgeous new boy has settled in fine! He was on the go until 10.30pm, where he cuddled up on a spare duvet at the bottom of our bed and is now fast asleep. We took him out to the enclosed playing fields with the "wheeker" and the ball, he was super off the lead, coming back every time we shouted, he thrives on praise and seems to be sooo happy with himself when he comes bounding back! He has eat and drank well, bowel movements are still a little soft, but we'll keep a close eye on that. We can't thank you enough for letting us be his new family, we've waited a long time, but they say good things come to those who wait... He's such an excitable but soft lad, we've fallen in love. Thanks again.

Dawn, Mike & Amy xxx

Holly >>
Posted: 22nd June 2012

Hi Folks,
Holly did her first Munro on Sunday. We went up Glenfinnan with 2 pals, 1 human & 1 Border terrier. Holly enjoyed running beside me on the cycle in, probably because it was uphill and I never got past 10mph. She loved the walk round the 2 Munros, doing that collie thing of running uphill ahead of us and looking back as if wondering why us humans are so slow. I don't think she was as keen on the return cycle ride where I was freewheeling downhil at 25 mph, I had to wait for her a few times as the novelty of running full pelt wore off after a mile or so. I thought she would be tired yesterday after such a long day, but we went for her usual ball game in a field and she was as keen as ever and deafened me if I was too slow throwing the ball.

Judy said she was surprised at how quickly she missed Holly as it's the first time I've had her away all day. I think the next trip will have to be a family outing back to the beach or something.

David.

Posted: 3rd June 2012

Well Judy has finally been adopted, her family are so kind and I know she will get the very best of attention with them. Her " mum " is there all the time. So no more dogs barking kennels doors banging ect: for this wee lass, everyone knows it is going to take a long time before she trusts anyone as she is that timid. Hopefully this is the start of the rest of her life, I do hope so she so deserves to have a happy life. xxx
Ps: Sorry not the best of pictures, camera needed batteries !!!!!!
